A.068 Architecture Station, Lodz
In 2012 the city of Lodz, that back then was the owner of the former tram loop building, and Lodz Regional Chamber of Architects have concluded an agreement under which the city undertook to pass the building depot for the Chamber’s head office premises. In return the Chamber undertook to renovate the building and restore it to its former glory. The Chamber did not, however, plan to organise a design competition for adaptation of this building which in this situation seemed to be the logical continuation of the previous actions and the most credible way to identify a useful architectural concept. Instead, they wanted to implement the design on their own. After a strong opposition (including ours) of some of the Lodz’s architecture community, the competition never happened. Unfortunately, just as we expected, the competition’s purpose in principle was not to select the final architectural concept and, as its results confirmed, it was de facto not resolved. All of the three entries that entered into the competition were granted awards, the jury claiming that none of the entries met the client’s expectations. Which is a pity. We executed his design together with N.O.W. Architecture Office sp. z o. o. (LLC)
